In this essay, we substantiate recent productions on the theme of distance education institutionalization with the aim of building a theoretical-analytical framework that brings together our contributions to the analysis of the object as research, criticism and productivity. We demarcated our position and proposed analytical alternatives to scrutinize the phenomenon in related investigations. We started with an effort to define the object, building an amalgam of other recent discussions. Afterwards, we introduce our discussion related to the levels and gradations that make possible a diagnosis of the institutionalization of EaD, constituting itself as an important instrument of analysis and strategic management, aiming to advance in the organic incorporation of the distance modality in higher education institutions. Finally, we demonstrate the dialectical device that is at the core of the movements that make up the phenomenon, seeking to show that the contradictions generated and maintained by the UAB System produce syntheses that tend to flow towards hybridized scenarios, that is, of overcoming the dichotomies between modalities.
